In working with dealerships over the past few renewal cycles, MADA has found that staff turnover is a common reason a dealership’s license renewal gets missed, delayed, or filed incorrectly.
When the person who has always “handled the paperwork” leaves, the new hire or the manager filling in might not have knowledge of all the details needed to file the various license renewals. To help our members support those transitions, MADA has put together a quick reference handout covering the dealership-specific license renewals every dealership needs to stay on top of.
This handout provides an overview of timelines and key points to be aware of when managing your license renewals:
- Dealer License and Dealer Plates/Tabs
- Repair Facility License
- Installment Seller (Finance) License
For each license, the overview explains which agency issues it, along with general renewal windows and key documentation required. We also included links so you can update MDOS and DIFS when you have a contact change. This helps ensure your renewal information is emailed to the correct person.
